The flaky nail solution - Essie grow stronger base coat review

Friday, 28 November 2014

Recently, my nails keep breaking, they feel very soft and brittle. For as long as I can remember I've had really strong nails, no amount of nail polish, or nail polish remover seemed to weaken them or cause them to break more easily. The past three months, despite a period prior to that of not wearing nearly as much nail polish as normal, and even cutting down the amount I paint my nails in the past couple of months, they are consistently breaking, flaky, and quite bendy.

Now, I know the best thing here is to consider diet. Unfortunately, I've been known to be a bit picky about what I eat so it's unlikely I'll be making any changes there, So, I've gone for the more superficial solution.

You can get other nail polishes as part of a 3-step routine for nail-strengthening from Essie, but I only dipped my toe in the water and picked up the one to see how it fared.

Verdict? Very impressed. It works well as a base coat at smoothing things out (although there are base coats for that particular purpose which will perform better) and there is less flaking off of the top layer of my nail which had become my particular gripe. So far so good. I'm hoping this will help make my nails a lot stronger, and really limit breaking. If this keeps popping up in any nail posts I do in future, then you'll know it has continued to improve my nails - so keep an eye out for it, and i'll keep you updated.

What products do you use to help keep your nails in tip-top condition?

  1. I've never tried Essie products before! Their range of coloured polished always look really nice though. I'm terrible for biting my nails or breaking them so I use Sally Hansen's clear polish to help
